Fiat has unveiled the 2011 Freemont, ahead of its debut at the Geneva Motor Show.
Essentially a rebadged Dodge Journey, the Freemont is "designed to meet the diverse needs of families and those seeking a spacious, comfortable and versatile vehicle to cater for the frenetic pace of everyday life or weekend leisure time."
Compared to its American cousin, the Freemont has modified bumpers, a revised grille, and LED tail lights. While these are minor changes, the Freemont also has a "special suspension and steering configuration" as well as improved sound-deadening.
Two trim levels will be available and the entry-level model comes nicely equipped with seven seats, tri-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry, cruise control, a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), fog lights, a touchscreen infotainment system, and a maximum cargo capacity of 1461 liters (51.6 cubic feet). Moving up to the range-topping variant adds Bluetooth connectivity, rear parking sensors, automatic headlights, roof rails, tinted windows, and 17-inch alloy wheels.
At launch, the MPV will be available exclusively with front-wheel drive and a 140 hp (104 kW / 142 PS) or 170 hp (127 kW / 172 PS) 2.0-liter MultiJet diesel which is paired to a manual transmission. Later on, an all-wheel drive variant will be added with an automatic transmission and a 170 hp (127 kW / 172 PS) 2.0-liter MultiJet diesel or a 276 hp (206 kW / 280 PS) 3.6-liter V6 petrol.
Pricing information hasn't been announced, but the Freemont will go on sale in second half of 2011.
